What is "Doyo no Ushi no Hi" (土用の丑の日)?
Doyo no Ushi no Hi is a traditional day in Japan during the hottest part of summer.
"Doyo" (土用) refers to the 18-day period leading up to the seasonal change.
It's called the "Ushi no Hi" (丑の日) or "Day of the Ox" because the zodiac sign for that day is the ox.
Why Eat Eel on Doyo no Ushi no Hi?
Traditionally believed to give you energy and help you cope with the summer heat.
People enjoy eel (鰻 unagi) on this day.
